Google Maps has data for Barcelona Tram in real time
From today, thanks to an agreement between TRAM and Google, when a person plans a journey by public transport in Barcelona he gets real time data. Thus, the user will know the exact time that will pass the tram stop. To deliver this data, Tram backoffice systems have been adapted to fulfill Google standard format. To do this, Nexus Geografics has developed with TRAM an online based service, based on BusManager platform, to include schedule real time data on Google Maps.
For over four years, Google Maps has covered public transport routes in Barcelona Area, using data from the main operators in the Metropolitan Region of Transport. This is static data, planned schedules. Now , TRAM is the first operator in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona publishing to Google Maps real time schedules.
To F.Javier Vizcaino, CEO of TRAM , "This is another step to put technology at the service of public transport. The more information the citizen, the easier will using ublic transportation. If the information is also in real time, much better." TRAM and Google are now studying the possibility of offering short-term alerts or Tram service incidents through Google Maps.
TRAM is a private company that manages the Tram network in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona. In 2013 it carried 23.4 million passengers, with 41 trams, covering a total of 2.5 million km and 56 stops.
